The counseling department provides a comprehensive counseling program that supports the academic, social, emotional, and post-secondary needs of all its students.
CHAD has two counselors who operate under the supervision of the Director of Counseling Services and work in coordination with the teachers, administration, and support staff. Counselor caseloads are divided equally using the alphabet based on the last names of the students. This model allows CHAD counselors to work with all grade levels and have the same students through graduation.
Freshman and Sophomore Year
Starting freshman year and continuing into the sophomore year, CHAD students experience a thorough hands-on counseling curriculum administered by their school counselor. This curriculum is delivered in multiple formats including classroom guidance lessons, individual and group counseling, parent and student meetings, software-based activities, emails, and phone calls home. Topics covered include resume building, career interest inventories, course selection, and long-term academic planning, academic support, and social/emotional support.
Junior and Senior Year
CHAD upper-class students experience a rigorous school counseling curriculum to ensure all student graduate with a seamless transition into their post-secondary plans. CHAD seniors can meet with over 80 college representatives who visit CHAD as well as visit over 15 different college campuses. CHAD also invites military service recruiters and working professionals from various disciplines to meet and distribute information to seniors. In addition, CHAD seniors take trips to local job sites for experiential learning. To ease the financial responsibilities of post-secondary schooling, CHAD offers three separate FAFSA Workshops on campus for students and parents to apply for financial aid. CHAD upper-class students also meet in the classroom, group, and individual sessions with their counselors or the director of counseling regularly throughout the year.
